A year inside the Emergency Department.

The Fellowship in Emergency Medicine (FEM) is a 12-month, hands-on training program hosted at our partner hospital — not an exam-prep course. You work directly in the ED, build a genuine EM portfolio, and finish prepared to sit MRCEM Primary.

About the fellowship

What FEM is, and how it's different.

FEM is a 1-year structured training program designed to immerse young doctors in Emergency and Acute Care. Hosted at our partnered teaching hospital, fellows spend the full year working directly in the Emergency Department and other acute care areas — real patient care, acute decision-making and resuscitative interventions, under expert supervision.

This hands-on clinical training is blended with an academic framework: monthly online classes, face-to-face simulation workshops through our EMBRACE series, and faculty-led case discussions. Fellows also get the chance to attend national and international conferences, take part in academic projects, and build a portfolio aligned with global training standards.

Unlike our PLAB, MRCEM and MRCS courses — which prepare you for a specific licensing exam — FEM is clinical training itself. It's designed to build a genuinely strong, internationally relevant EM portfolio, including research, quality improvement and leadership exposure, while also preparing fellows to sit the MRCEM Primary exam by year-end.

⚠ Important to know

FEM is a clinical upskilling program. It is not recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), India, and is not a substitute for a formal Indian postgraduate qualification.

Fellows may be eligible for a monthly stipend during the fellowship — ask us for current details, as this is confirmed on a cohort basis.

Career progression

Where FEM takes you.

Emergency Medicine forms the foundation of acute care training across multiple specialties. Whether you continue into EM or transition elsewhere, FEM builds the skills, mindset and confidence to deliver safe, effective care in high-pressure situations.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

FEM provides structured acute care experience that directly supports MRCEM/FRCEM preparation, and helps fulfil the clinical criteria required for UK training applications in EM or related specialties such as ACCS and Surgery (MRCS).

🇦🇺 Australia

FEM adds credibility for STT (Short-Term Training) posts, strengthens applications under the Specialist International Medical Graduate (SIMG) pathway, and counts towards Recognition of Prior Learning (RPLE) when applying for FACEM training.

🇺🇸 United States

A structured EM fellowship enhances competitiveness for residency applications in Emergency Medicine, ICU, Anaesthesia, and Surgery.

🇮🇳 India & Gulf Countries

FEM graduates are positioned for registrar/consultant-level roles in Emergency Departments in India, or can leverage the FEM credential for opportunities in the Middle East.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is FEM the same as an MRCEM preparation course?

No. FEM is a full year of hands-on clinical work in the Emergency Department, blended with academics — it's clinical training, not an exam-only course. It does prepare fellows to sit MRCEM Primary by year-end, but that's one part of a much broader program.

Is FEM recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC)?

No — FEM is a clinical upskilling program and is not NMC-recognised. It's not a substitute for a formal Indian postgraduate qualification such as MD/DNB.

Is there a stipend during the fellowship?

Fellows may be eligible for a monthly stipend — this is confirmed on a cohort basis, so ask our team for current details when you enquire.

Where does the clinical placement happen?

At our partner teaching hospital, Mythri Hospital in Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad — a NABH-accredited, 100+ bed multi-specialty tertiary care centre.

How is admission decided?

By interview, held in-person or online.
